About Me- Heather

Hi, I’m Heather, a proud mom to two beautiful boys, one of whom has food allergies.

As a mom, I know the challenges and joys of parenting, but being a food allergy mom adds a whole new layer of vigilance, creativity, and resilience.

My first born son was diagnosed with food and environmental allergies at 6 months old and in an instant I became an “allergy mom.” I remember feeling overwhelmed and anxious. Suddenly, everyday tasks like meal planning, grocery shopping, and even attending playdates became complicated.

Now, here I am almost four years later and it all feels a little less overwhelming and a lot more manageable.

Foods we avoid due to confirmed IgE-mediated allergies

  • Peanut
  • Tree-nut
  • Soy
  • Most legumes: lentil, chickpea, green pea, some beans
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • All Mollusks
  • Fish

We’ve successfully reintroduced cod fish and black beans.

I’ve created this space to share my personal experiences and insights on motherhood and managing food allergies. From allergy-friendly recipes, to navigating social situations and advocating for your child’s needs, my goal is to be a resource for other parents who are in the same boat.

A little about me:

Born and raised in sunny Southern California, I now call the East Coast home. After spending over a decade teaching and leading in K-12 public schools, I am enjoying a career pause to focus on family. I hold a Masters in School Administration from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. When I’m not juggling my busy boys, you can find me out for a walk, enjoying a new restaurant with my husband, or sneaking in a catnap.
